Abu al-Hasan Imam Ali al-Naqi al-Hadi, peace be upon him, the tenth leader of the Shi’ah, was born in the middle of Dhul-Hijjah in the year 212 AH in a place called “Surya” near Medina. His father was the ninth Imam, Imam Jawad, peace be upon him, and his mother was the noble lady Samānah, a virtuous and pious servant. The most famous titles of the tenth Imam are Naqi and Hadi, and he is also referred to as Abu al-Hasan the third. Imam Hadi, peace be upon him, assumed the Imamate in the year 220 AH after the martyrdom of his honorable father when he was still under eight years old.
Just as the Lord chose twelve leaders from the Children of Israel, He also chose twelve leaders for this Ummah to guide the people towards Him with His permission. Is it not true that God knows where to place His message? For this reason, our Imams, including Imam Hadi (a), are among the best of God’s creation in knowledge, and for this reason, God selected him for this great divine position. The Imam was also a servant of God, and his faith and knowledge of God gave his heart tranquility.
He loved to be submissive to God, and for this reason, God loved him and granted him a noble position, making him beloved in the sight of his Lord. The miracles that appeared through his hands were clear signs of God’s ultimate love for him and, consequently, his immense love for God, as well as his submission and contentment with whatever God had ordained for him.
